Hours collects nothing about you. There are no accounts, no analytics, no advertising, and no tracking of any kind.
What is stored
Hours keeps a few preferences so the app opens where you left it. These are stored only on your own device and are never transmitted anywhere:
- Which section, tradition and topic you last viewed
- Whether you read the Psalter in Masoretic or Septuagint numbering
- Whether you follow the New or Old Calendar
- Which hours you have enabled prayer reminders for
- A cached copy of the current day's calendar, so the app works offline
Deleting the app removes all of it. Nothing survives elsewhere, because nothing was ever sent elsewhere.
Network requests
Hours makes one kind of network request: it asks orthocal.info for the Orthodox calendar for a given day — the commemorations, tone, fasting rule, scripture readings and lives of the saints.
That request is unauthenticated and carries no account, no identifier and no information about you. It says only which date and which calendar reckoning is wanted. Orthocal.info is operated independently of Hours and has its own practices; as with any web request, your device's IP address is visible to the server it contacts.
Everything else — the prayers, the full Psalter, the chant — is included in the app and needs no network at all.
Notifications
Prayer reminders are scheduled locally by your device. They are not push notifications: no server is involved, and nothing about your reminders leaves your phone. You can turn them off individually in the app, or entirely in your device settings.
Children
Hours is suitable for all ages. Because it collects no information from anyone, it collects none from children either.
Changes
If this policy ever changes, the date above will change with it. Should Hours ever begin collecting anything — which is not planned — that would be stated here plainly and in advance.
