Common questions
How do I turn on prayer reminders?
Open the Today tab and scroll to Prayer Reminders. Each of the seven hours has its own switch. The first time you enable one, iOS will ask permission to send notifications; reminders cannot be delivered unless you allow it.
Why is Orthros switched off to begin with?
The hour of Orthros begins at four in the morning. It is left off so the app does not wake you unasked. Turn it on whenever you want it.
My reminders stopped arriving.
Check Settings → Notifications → Hours on your device and confirm that notifications are still allowed. A Focus mode or Scheduled Summary can also hold them back until later.
Which calendar should I choose?
Follow the practice of your own parish. The New Calendar (Revised Julian) is used by most Greek, Antiochian, Romanian and OCA parishes. The Old Calendar (Julian) is used by ROCOR, Serbian, Georgian and Jerusalem. Fixed feasts fall thirteen days apart between them; Pascha is reckoned the same way in both.
The chant stops when I leave the app.
It should keep playing with the screen locked or another app open, and lock screen controls should appear. It will stop if you swipe the app away from the app switcher, as any audio app does.
Does it work without a signal?
Yes. The prayers, the whole Psalter and the chant are inside the app. The day's calendar is kept after it is fetched, so a day you have already opened stays available. A day you have not yet opened needs a connection once.
Why does today's commemoration differ from my parish calendar?
Calendar data follows OCA practice, by way of orthocal.info. Jurisdictions differ in their commemorations and in some fasting rules, so a local calendar may not agree in every particular. Check the New and Old Calendar setting first, as that accounts for most differences.
Is the Psalter numbered the way my prayer book is?
Both numberings are available. Septuagint numbering is the one used in Orthodox service books; Masoretic follows the Hebrew text and most English Bibles. Switch between them at the top of the Psalter.

The app on the web
Hours also runs in a browser at orthodoxhoursapp.com, without the reminders, which a web page cannot deliver once it is closed.
